Program Overview

Federal and State Protected Classes

The term “protected class” is considered a term of art and has legal significance in the workplace. We’ll discuss all of the protected classes both under federal and state law that you should be aware of.

Discrimination

Even though Title VII was passed over 60 years ago, we still have discrimination in the workplace. The course will provide important definitions, examples, and hypotheticals to ensure your understanding and most importantly, ensure that you help prevent it in the workplace.

Harassment and Sexual Harassment

Terms that often get inextricably linked are discrimination and harassment. In order to help clarify understanding, we have made a course specifically on harassment, what it means and how you can protect the workplace.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

While discrimination and harassment laws are a great base to equality, in many cases they do not go far enough to help break down barriers of implicit bias. We’ll provide an overview of the definitions, how to spot implicit bias and its definitions.

Investigations

What happens when harassment or discrimination actually take place? How do you handle the situation? Investigations are a great tool in risk management. We’ll discuss how to conduct a thorough investigation, who should be interviewed, the types of questions that should be asked, and how to weigh the evidence so you can determine the appropriate outcomes.

EEO-1 Reporting

Even if you do not yet have to comply with this reporting requirement, it is still valuable information to know. We’ll go over the job categories and types of positions that fall within those categories and how to appropriately gather information.

Politics and Hot Topics in the Workplace

Freedom of Speech has been a hot issue for some time now but what does that mean for employers? We’ll provide an overview of how to manage these delicate issues and what you can and cannot do when it comes to regulating discussions in the workplace.

Affirmative Actions Plans

While this requirement is only applicable to Federal Contractors, having a clear understanding of obligations and implications of these plans is helpful in your general knowledge of Human Resources responsibilities and requirements. We’ll discuss what these are and how to best implement the plans to ensure compliance.
