A little housekeeping: Starting in 2026, MA employees eligible for Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) will receive an increase in the benefit amount. The maximum benefit amount is now $1230.39 a week, up from $1170.64 per week. Fortunately, the amount employers pay into PFML has not increased and the rate remains the same.

The DFML also released guidance related to the IRS treatment of benefits received and contributions made. We suggest you make sure your accountant and payroll provider are aware of IRS Ruling 2025-4 and IRS Notice 2026-6. There are no new reporting or withholding requirements for employers but we now have clarification on how the IRS will treat benefits and taxes related to PFML.
