How is that to do list going? Sigh. Below is a quick summary of the two hot topics right now: MA Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) implementation and the end–or is it?– of the FFCRA leave:
MA PFML is in full swing and employers need to do a few things to prepare:
- Post the PFML poster (via intranet or email for remote workers);
- Sign up for an account on the DFML website, which is where all of their applications for leave will be found.
The applications are all up online to process leave requests. Fingers crossed for a smooth operation but that has not been the case at any point with this law so far. Just sayin’
FFCRA: Extend?
The Department of Labor issued some “guidance” on New Year’s about the FFCRA leave extension–such a good time crowd. Problem is, there are a lot of unanswered questions, hence the quotes around “guidance.”
To recap, the FFCRA mandated that some employers grant paid sick leave or additional family and medical leave for particular reasons related to COVID-19. That obligation expired on 12/31/20. The DOL has announced that these employers may voluntarily continue FFCRA leave through 3/31/21. Depending on what you decide, you need to:
- Inform employees that they are not eligible for a new bank of leave as FFCRA expired; OR
- Notify employees about the extension of the leave through 3/31/21, and update your forms.
Oh, and we need bananas. Wrong list. Questions? We can help.
